Serena Tom

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Serena grew up with a love for ballet, dance and movement. She holds a B.A. in Honors Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. After graduation, she moved to NYC to pursue a career in the marketing and advertising industry. Living the high stress and fast-paced lifestyle of the media/advertising industry, she realized that something was “”missing”” and first tried yoga as a means to de-stress from the pressures of the corporate world. Over time, she realized her true love for yoga and the desire to inspire and serve others. Serena decided to take a risk and left the corporate life to pursue her passion in becoming a yoga teacher. It was the best decision she ever made!

Serena has been rated as one of the: 50 Hottest Female Trainers in America 2014 by Shape Magazine, and one of the most popular instructors in New York City by RateYourBurn. She has also received press mention and been invited to contribute articles for Shape Magazine, Glamour, Cosmopolitan Magazine, W Magazine, among others. Serena currently teaches at Equinox, Pure Yoga, and has taught for Nike and the Nike Training Club. Serena’s teaching style is based on the Jivamukti, Ashtanga and Vinyasa teachings (integrating meditation and a vigorous breath-linked flow). She strives to create a transformational experience with an emphasis on a vigorous and challenging physical asana, deliberate movement, individual experience, spiritual mindfulness, conscious choice, and transmitting the understanding of the “”subtle body and energy””. Serena’s classes combine power and flexibility with movement, bandhas and breath to calm the mind and energize the body. She strives to combine her passion for yoga, to inspire and empower others to achieve greater physical and mental wellbeing, have students find the path of yoga to heal themselves physically and emotionally, and seek personal fulfillment in their lives.
