Movement has always been sacred to me. I have danced my whole life, whether it’s been grooving to a good song, taking dance classes or flowing through a vinyasa, my body can’t get enough. Through movement, I feel as though I’m communing with the Divine.I took my first vinyasa class in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga Center. I had a feeling of arriving home. We moved through postures seamlessly with an emphasis of breath-body connection. The class gave me what the dance world didn’t, an emphasis on the internal journey. I received my 200-hour Vinyasa Certification with Lauren Hanna at Sonic Yoga NYC in 2003. I met Shiva Rea shortly thereafter and again, felt as though I had come home. Shiva had created a language for the kind of movement I’ve been doing my whole life. She, too, understood the idea of fluidity. Our bodies yearn to move like water and when we do, our bodies hum with excitement. I’ve completed my 300-hour Prana Flow Certification with Shiva. I thank all my teachers for sharing their passion of this practice with me: David Life for opening my heart, Stacey Brass for her minute cues that have changed me life, Uma for opening my voice, Dana Flynn for throwing out all the rules and inspiring me to do the same, Constantine Darling for showing me another way, and Paul Ortega for reminding me we are all the cosmic dancer. Paul Ochoa PT, DPT, OCS, LMT
As a Certified Orthopaedic Specialist and Co-Owner of F Squared Physical Therapy of New York, Paul brings with him over 10 years of hands-on experience to the table with every patient he treats. He approaches every patient by breaking down their movements into biomechanical basics, no matter what sport or activity. By looking at the fundamentals of movement, Paul uses evidence-based practices to treat everything from common running injuries, post-operative care of ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repairs and spinal surgery to jaw pain. Paul believes that patient education as well as his own continuing education is key to returning his patients to their optimal health.
As a native New Yorker, Paul began his education at Hunter College as a Psychology major. He then went on to become a licensed massage therapist at the Swedish Institute. Working alongside a team of healthcare practitioners, he coordinated the massage team for the elite runners as part of the New York Road Runners from 2003 to 2006. Continuing his education, in addition to becoming an orthopedic specialist, Paul was part of the first group to complete the Diane Lee and LJ Lee series, Discover Physio course, in the United States.
As an educator, Paul has taught advanced anatomy and injury prevention courses to Yoga instructors around the U.S. He is currently working towards his own Yoga certification to bring yet another aspect of body movement to his patients. Alongside Chad, Paul teaches a RUNshop course to new and old runners as well as practitioners looking to treat and train runners.
In his spare time, Paul studies martial arts and fighting styles including capoeira, muay thai, wrestling and jeet kune do.
