The Art of Inquiry – Explorations in Yoga and Writing
Join us for a unique 5-night and 6-day Writing and Yoga Retreat combining yoga, meditation and writing. Our mission is to ignite your inspiration and fuel your creativity with the gentle guidance of our talented instructors and supportive community of like-minded souls. Whether you are looking to re-enliven your work, finish a project or start journaling, this is a retreat that will surely awaken the writer within you!
Yoga and Writing – a match made in heaven
The best writing is done with the body. Your hand holds a pen, or your fingers touch keys, or you open your mouth and tell a story with your voice. Stories need the body to exist in a world larger than the storyteller’s own mind. The practice of yoga asana and meditation bring up emotions and energy that is stagnant or “locked†within the body, and it allows us to reach deeper within our own consciousness and self-awareness.
Yoga helps us unlock our creative energy by helping us access all of those “”locked”” emotions as well as our somatic intelligence. Writing helps us make sense of all those emotions by transforming our creative energy into written expression (in the form of an article, a story, a page in a personal journal).
What you will gain with this retreat
This retreat will help you discover, nurture and support your own creative potential by providing you with:
- Personal support and guidance from a talented and experienced yoga instructor, Renee Gauthier, as well as a Ph.D in Literature and assistant Professor from the University of San Diego, Halina Duraj.
- The time and space to slow down, to reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. When we take the time to disconnect from other life responsibilities, we can open and remember different parts of ourselves.
- Inspiration through our surroundings, by being in a beautiful and unique place and nourished with healthy food.
- A community of talented teachers and like-minded souls that can and will enrich your experience tenfold (one of the best parts of a yoga retreat is the community that is organically developed from the communion of a group of people).
- The opportunity to try new things and lean into discomfort, all the while with the support of a nurturing, safe environment.
- A fun experience! Both writing and yoga can be serious. And they can also be playful and fun. We will encourage you to be you, to be present with what is, and to open up to the depths of your experience. This will be a celebration of your creativity and reaching your fullest self-expression.
Who is this for?
You may be the next Hemingway, or maybe you just want to make journaling a part of your everyday life. It really doesn’t matter. This retreat will benefit the student who is curious and ready to discover and explore a new way to unlock their creative energy and transform thoughts and feelings into written words.

Instructors’ Bios
Renee Gauthier (MA, E-RYT, CMT)
Intertwined with her personal search for health, happiness and fulfillment, Renee always had a strong desire to inspire those things in others. Throughout life she found joy and well being by means of movement and somatic awareness. During her childhood and early adulthood, Renee danced to express her creative energy. Through movement, she was able to access and channel feelings and a sense of self that were beyond any expression through words. This began her love of understanding the body, and thereby cultivating greater understanding of the self
Renee’s passion for movement and healing arts lead her to become a yoga instructor and massage therapist. To compliment her somatic arts modalities, she also have a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in cross-cultural counseling. This combination of expressive movement, bodywork, yogic mindfulness, and emotion focused counseling represent her integrated approach towards health and wellness.
